The customer wanted to measure the displacement of the a vertical pump shaft just below the top pump bearing housing and just above the top seal. CMS removable probe mounts were purchased and attached using the integral rare earth magnets 90 degrees apart as shown in the photo at bottom right. A photo tach provided the 1x rpm signal. The customer reported he was very pleased with Probe Mounts and they were successful in making the shaft measurements.

Another vertical pump application involved a high speed unit that used tilting pad bearings. Temporary proximity probe mounting was used during testing of the pumps on a test stand to measure shaft vibration relative to the bearing housings. Accelerometers were then used in conjunction with the probe mounts to measure absolute shaft vibration.
